DC Bloggers February Meetup: Important Tips for Travel Blogging

Posted: March 3, 2020

On Thursday, Feb. 22nd 2020, The DC Chapter of the Blogger Union was honored to have two local DC Bloggers, Emily from theemilyedition.com and her sister Kate from classyandkate.com to hear all things Travel Blogging at The Furniture Department at Macy’s at Fashion Centre Pentagon City ! They covered a variety of topics to include photography and editing, drones, pitching, and planning content while traveling. Below is a recap of what we learned: Establishing a brand: Have a professional email address and website. It gives you credibility and professionalism. You don’t have to start with a paid domain, you can give a free website a trial run first. Have a nice email signature and an email address that comes directly from your website domain. Think of interviewing for a job, how do you stand out and set yourself apart?  Be open to trying new things and finding your niche. Being present and consistent is important when working with brands. Having engagement from followers helps show it will be a mutually beneficial partnership. Working with travel brands (getting started/pitching): Start creating content that shows what you can provide. When you travel, take photos of all of the different amenities at your hotel, tag the hotels …

DC Bloggers January Meetup: Public Relations for Bloggers

Posted: February 10, 2020

On Sunday, January 12th, the DC Bloggers hosted their first event of 2020 at the premier hair salon in DC, Ian McCabe Studio at their West End location. Sara McDermott, Founder of Eleven Eleven PR talked all things Public Relations for Bloggers. Here are the top three takeaways from this sold-out event: It is important to establish your identity. The better you can define who you are when you reach out to PR companies, the better a company can match you with events and brands. PR companies love when you reach out to them! Keep it conversational in your initial email; avoid sounding like a spam email. Define your opportunity beforehand- Is it paid? What exactly are you offering? What is the timing for blog feedback? Who controls the brand voice? Who approves the post? Thank you to Ian McCabe Studio, Eleven Eleven PR, and Arch Photography for capturing this event!

Rome Bloggers April 2018 Meetup

Posted: July 17, 2018

We had such a great time during our April meetup with journalist & public radio professional, Katy Sewall, as she spoke on the topic of interviewing. The meetup took place on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Rome at the Alembic restaurant in the neighborhood of Trastevere, as we welcomed a packed house full of bloggers, writers, and photographers. During the presentation, Katy gave us practical tips & tricks we can use for interviewing- not only in a professional setting, but also when having day to day conversations with others. To become a better interviewer, Katy spoke to us about how to bring out personal stories of the people we encounter, how to mine for more depth in their answers, how to create a narrative arc in our questions, and even find out about the common mistakes interviewers make. Katy Sewall is also the host of the internationally known podcast, The Bittersweet Life, alongside co-host Tiffany Parks. Together the duo discuss expat life, repat life, travel, and try to answer some of life’s biggest questions, with some guest interviews along the way. To tune in and subscribe, click here. Rome Bloggers December 2017 Meetup

Posted: July 10, 2018

To kick off the end of the year, Rome Bloggers hosted a fun, interactive aperitivo meetup at the Peaky Blinders cocktail bar located right in the center of the city, between Piazza Navona and Castel Sant’Angelo. Peaky Blinders cocktail bar is the perfect place to go sit down and enjoy a drink from their carefully crafted menu. During the aperitivo, they provided us with drinks, cheese, and curated meat while chatting about holiday plans, travel, work & more. Although many of our Rome Blogger members were traveling during this time, we were able to keep the meetup small and intimate to really get to know one another and chat about ideas for future blogger meet-ups. Having this time to chat was well-needed to settle into the end of the year. We plan on having very exciting events to come in the new year and can’t wait to have everyone participate. If you are new to Rome Bloggers, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates on events which are hosted monthly. Also, a huge thank you to Peaky Blinders for hosting us in their beautiful space. If you’d like to check out Peaky Blinders while in …
