In October, the Greenville Bloggers had the pleasure of hearing from Mary Willson from GVL Today – a rapidly expanding digital news outlet. Mary broke down how GVL Today started, how they capture the attention of locals, and their take on email marketing.
A Couple Things We Learned:
- You have to meet the society where they are. For a news outlet, consumers want the headlines in a ‘snack sized format’ so GVL Today has created deliverables based on the consumer preferences.
- Emails so important right now — it allows you to stay in your digital space and meets users where they are. Essentially if you’re not taking advantage of email marketing for your digital platform you’re missing out on a huge reader base.

People want to read publications like they are talking to a friend. Always keep a conversational writing tone and style!
Mary also elaborated on ways the Greenville Bloggers can get involved in the community – such as submitting long-form content and story ideas to the Voices section of the publication.
